📋 TLDR

📰 TCG News: MEGA Dream ex’s secret rares are fully revealed, a new “Celebration Collection” trademark hints at a 30th anniversary set, and a dedicated collector is aggressively hoarding Fossil Kabuto #50.

🔢 Card Market Highlights: $7.8k PSA 10 Gold Metal Pikachu, Big premiums on reverse holos (Legend Maker Wailord, Skyridge Snorlax) to rising promos and sealed products like BOSS Coffee Giovanni, Fusion Strike, Moonlit Pursuit, and steady foreign 1st Edition Base Set boxes.

😴 Potential Sleepers: Unified Minds - Pikachu Reverse Holo #56

🏆 Card of the Week: Keldeo ex from English White Flare 167/086 and Japanese White Flare 169/086, illustrated by Yuu Nishida. According to its Pokédex entries, it crosses the world by running over the surfaces of oceans and rivers, often appearing at scenic waterfronts. This card captures that visual perfectly with amazing fall colors.

📰 TCG News

Note: Some updates may touch on wider Pokémon news beyond the TCG.

🔵 “MEGA Dream ex” Secret Rares Revealed!

MEGA Dream ex’s secret rares have been fully revealed, showcasing a big lineup of Mega ex cards (including Mega Charizard X, Gardevoir, Lucario, Dragonite, and more), character-focused ex cards like Team Rocket’s Mewtwo ex and Steven’s Metagross ex, plus a Tera Pikachu ex illustrated by James Turner.

The set debuts a new Mega Attack Rare comic-style rarity and introduces a unique reverse holo system where every non-ex Pokémon gets two versions (Energy pattern and a Poké Ball tied to its line), for a total of 236 reverse holos, while Trainers, Energy, and Pokémon ex do not receive reverse holo variants. 🔵 “Celebration Collection” Set Name Trademarked for the Pokémon TCG

Pokémon Japan has filed a new “Celebration Collection” trademark, using the same legal terms typically applied to Pokémon TCG set names and written fully in English. The timing lines up with the franchise’s upcoming 30th anniversary in 2026, so it could be the name of a special commemorative set, similar to how Celebrations was used for the 25th anniversary and featured reprints of iconic cards like Charizard and Blastoise.

Based on how long it usually takes for trademarks to turn into products, Celebration Collection would likely release in summer or fall 2026, after several already known Japanese sets such as MEGA Dream ex, Munikis Zero, Ninja Spinner, and others. (Source: Pokebeach)

🔵 Kabuto collector builds massive collection of 1999 Fossil Kabuto cards

A single dedicated collector has been steadily buying up Kabuto #50, pushing prices more than 1,100% higher over the past year, with NM copies now around $8.67 with some sales even crossing $10. He shares his progress publicly, rallying a self-named “Kabuto Legion” of supporters, while some owners dig in and refuse to sell as he hints at even bigger plans for the hoard. (Source: X)

🔢 Card Market Highlights

📦 Sealed Product Market Highlights

🔵 Sealed Team Rocket's Giovanni BOSS Coffee promo sells for ~$18

Listing

The sealed Team Rocket’s Giovanni BOSS Coffee promo is a tie-in card that was distributed with BOSS Coffee products, featuring Giovanni with a cup of coffee and a BOSS logo on the artwork. It was packaged along with BOSS coffee products specifically advertising a luxurious cafe style coffee drink that can be enjoyed just by mixing milk or water.

Because it was released through a mass-market drink campaign rather than a typical TCG product, it’s in a more niche group of collaboration / advertisement promos that can be easily overlooked and yet very underrated. Raw prices have come up a bit from about $10 mid-year to near $20 in the past month.

🔵 Fusion Strike booster box sells for ~$900

Listing

The top chases of Fusion Strike are Gengar VMAX #271 (PSA 10 ~$2k), Espeon VMAX #270 (PSA 10 ~$650), and Mew VMAX #269 (PSA 10 ~$390). Fusion Strike booster boxes were hovering in the $700-$800 range from June to August before crossing the $1k mark around October and then dipping back down to around $850-$900.

🔵 Japanese Moonlit Pursuit booster box sells for ~$4.1k

Listing

The top chases of Moonlit Pursuit (ignoring the 1st Edition versions since they rank similarly to their non 1st Edition counterparts) are Garchomp Lv. X (PSA 10 ~$300 -though price data is very limited) and Mewtwo #181 (PSA 10 ~$250).

Price data was extremely limited for this box. The only other sold listing I could find was by KantoShark which sold for $3k in July 2024. There are currently two active listings for this box near $8k.

💎 Singles & Graded Cards Highlights

🔵 PSA 10 Celebrations Gold Metal Pikachu sells for $7.8k

Listing

The Celebrations Gold Metal Pikachu is one of the first officially manufactured metal Pokémon cards, released in October 2021 exclusively inside the Celebrations Ultra-Premium Collection alongside a matching Gold Metal Charizard, both being metal replicas of their original Base Set artworks with gold-colored faces and blue-and-yellow backs.

PSA initially halted grading the Celebrations metal cards because the encapsulation process was causing the painted surfaces to chip, then later resumed accepting them after updating their holders with recessed designs and protective padding. Prices have risen steeply for both the Charizard and this Pikachu, with Pikachu specifically jumping from about $2.5k mid-year.

🔵 PSA 10 Legend Maker Reverse Holo Wailord sells for $3.35k

Listing

(Note: this sale took place on Nov. 23rd.) Along with some other popular cards like Mew and Gengar, Legend Maker is best known for the Regi Trio Gold Star cards.

There are 15 copies in a PSA 10 for the reverse holo and 17 for the standard holo.

Besides the card design distinction between the two versions, the reverse holo is generally harder to pull in the case where a card has both versions. It also includes the Legend Maker set stamp adding to the collecting appeal. Another copy of the reverse holo in a PSA 10 sold for ~$2.1k two weeks prior.

🔵 Chinese Near Mint Gym Star Prize Victini sells for ~$1.2k

Listing

The championship Victini ex promo was awarded through events tied to the Raging Surf release across Asia. It was printed in multiple regional languages, including Traditional Chinese, Simplified Chinese, Thai, Indonesian, and Korean, all sharing the same core artwork but with local text and distinct promo numbering.

This particular sale was for the reissued Simplified Chinese version, which had some pre-order sales in October near $2.3k.

🕰️ Vintage & Niche Market Highlights

🔵 PSA 10 Skyridge Reverse Holo Snorlax sells for $12k

Listing - Best offer accepted from $18k list price

This card shares a similar story to the Legend Maker reverse holo Wailord, although, aside from the card design differences between the holo and reverse holo, there are no other notable distinctions. There are 16 copies of this card in a PSA 10 and 167 for the standard holo.

For reference, a Skyridge booster box sold in June for ~$73k. Naturally, with a set like this, even cards that might not be a top chase of the set will rise in value. On top of that, reverse holos were harder to pull for more vintage sets. There was one other sale for this card in December 2024 near ~$1.73k.

🔵 PSA 10 CoroCoro Ichiban Design Contest Arceus sells for $21.1k

Listing

The CoroCoro Ichiban Design Contest Arceus is one of thirteen Arceus and Spiky-eared Pichu cards created through the 2009 Pokémon Card Game Design Contest run across Shogakukan magazines to promote Arceus and the Jewel of Life.

Entrants used a preprinted “running Arceus” stencil, originally drawn by Takahiro Yamashita for the Movie Commemoration Random Pack, then submitted their own colored designs to CoroCoro Ichiban and the other participating magazines. Another copy of this card sold for $13.5k in April 2025, and given how exclusive and niche these contest cards are, there could still be room to move up.

🔵 1st Edition German Base Set booster box sells for ~$16.4k

Listing

Over the past couple months, German 1st Edition Base Set booster boxes have been regularly selling in the $16k-$18k range (subtracting the Buyer’s Premium that some auction houses collect on top of the winning bid). Korean booster boxes have seen a steep rise as discussed in the last report, while German has been steady in the current range and a bit higher in some cases. Is there still room for it to move up?

😴 Potential Sleepers

Unified Minds - Pikachu Reverse Holo #56

PSA 10 - 83 pop / 197 total - $200 average

Ungraded - $10 average for near mint condition

Modern “Common” rarity cards often get overlooked because they are so abundant. Oftentimes, they don’t feature popular Pokémon or sometimes the design of common cards restricts the art down to a small frame which might not make it as appealing to collect (the second point is mostly just my opinion). However, all cards, even uncommon ones, are no strangers to eventually becoming desirable down the line precisely because they were so overlooked.

This Pikachu card, specifically the reverse holo version, has increased over the past few months. Maybe because of the low PSA 10 pop, the number of copies up for sale is very low. The card itself features cute and unique Pikachu art and the reverse holo version with the lightning-bolt pattern adds to the appeal.

With Unified Minds being out of print for several years now it is less likely that the total graded count will increase that significantly as well.

📚 Educational Commentary – Collector’s Corner

How do you evaluate whether a card’s recent spike is sustainable?

When a card suddenly jumps, start by asking what actually changed. Did it win a big event, get tied to new media or a remake, or did a couple of high outlier sales just reset listings overnight? As strange as it might sound it is very possible for a single sale to change the trajectory of a card’s price although this mostly applies to higher end cards. Then look for follow-through: multiple normal auctions closing at the new level, not just one outlier, and steady demand over at least a week. On the supply side, check how many copies are for sale and how fast new ones appear.

One thing to keep in mind is that even price jumps that don’t fit the criteria for what is considered “organic growth” doesn't necessarily mean it’s manipulated or artificial. Many underrated cards can sit around for years going unnoticed and when genuine collectors take notice it can easily spike. Whether the spike is justified to begin with is a separate conversation about economics.
