📰 TCG News

Note: Some updates may touch on wider Pokémon news beyond the TCG.

🔵 Pentagon Food Court Adds Randomized Pokémon Card Vending Machine

A "Lucky Box" vending machine dispensing randomized Pokémon cards and sports memorabilia was reportedly installed in the Pentagon's food court in late December 2025. While the machine’s operator initially celebrated the "milestone moment" on social media, they have since scrubbed mentions of the location following increased media scrutiny and viral Reddit threads. 🔵 “Nullifying Zero” Secret Rares Revealed!

With the release of Nullifying Zero in Japan on January 23rd, more Secret Rare cards have finally been revealed! These cards will be included as a part of the English Set Perfect Order which is scheduled to release in March 2026. (Source: Pokébeach)

🔵 “Ascended Heroes” To Feature Multiple Reverse Holo Styles!

The upcoming Ascended Heroes set (releasing January 30) will introduce two distinct reverse holo patterns for Pokémon cards. One variant features an Energy symbol matching the Pokémon's type, while the other displays either a generic Poké Ball or a Team Rocket logo, depending on the card's affiliation. These styles originated in the Japanese MEGA Dream ex set and mark a rare departure from uniform reverse holo designs in English expansions. (Source: PokéBeach)

🔢 Card Market Highlights

📦 Sealed Product Market Highlights

🔵 Japanese S&M Shining Legends Booster Box Sells for $2k

Listing

In Japan, this set was released to coincide with the release of the twentieth movie (Pokémon the Movie: I Choose You!), a slight reimagining of Ash’s Kanto Journey. In English, booster packs could not be obtained through standard booster boxes but instead through special collection boxes.

Sealed Type - Year: Booster Box (SM3+) - 2017

Contents: 20 packs (6 cards per pack)

Market Insight: This price point represents a significant surge, up ~300% vs sales of ~$500 seen in Feb 2025; the premium is driven by the drying supply of S&M era sealed product and the enduring popularity of the modern "Shining" chase cards (Mew, Rayquaza) and even more so, the iconic Mewtwo GX #78.

🔵 Japanese S&M Lillie & Cosmog Special Box Sells for $2k

Listing

Released in June 2017, this "Special Box" was sold exclusively at Pokémon Centers in Japan to celebrate the main characters of the S&M games. It includes three packs of "Darkness that Consumes Light" and three packs of "To Have Seen the Battle Rainbow".

Sealed Type - Year: Special Collection Box - 2017

Contents: 2 Promos (Lillie 080/SM-P, Cosmog 081/SM-P), 6 Booster Packs (SM3), Accessories Market Insight: The primary value driver are the exclusive promos with the Lillie (080/SM-P) promo in particular in high demand at about $1k in a PSA 10. Overall this box is up about 100% from sub $1k sales in the beginning of 2025.

🔵 2009 Piplup Collector’s Box Sells for $3.8k

Listing

This rare "Classic Trio" Collector's Box was released during the Platinum era but is famous for containing older "throwback" packs from the EX Series. It features the Sinnoh water starter, Piplup, and is notoriously difficult to find sealed due to its fragile, irregular packaging.

Sealed Type - Year: Collector's Box - 2009

Contents: Piplup Promo #93, 3 booster packs (typically EX Crystal Guardians, EX Power Keepers, and a Diamond & Pearl era pack) plus promos.

Market Insight: At ~$3,800, this sale highlights the extreme scarcity of intact "Classic Trio" boxes and the value of the EX series packs which contain the elusive Gold Star cards. A set of all 3 starter boxes including this Piplup box sold for $2k in May 2024 highlighting the staggering price increase for just one.

⭐ Singles & Graded Cards Highlights

🔵 PSA 10 Japanese S&M GX Battle Boost Lillie Sells for $16k

Listing

This card comes from the 2017 High Class Pack "GX Battle Boost" and features the popular character Lillie illustrated by Naoki Saito. It is widely considered one of the premier "grail" cards of the S&M era.

Singles Type - Condition: Graded - PSA 10

Set Name - Year: GX Battle Boost (SM4+) - 2017

Market Insight: This $16,000 sale demonstrates strong support for high-end Japanese Full Art Trainers. Its PSA 10 English counterpart from the Ultra Prism set is about 100% less in value at around $1.6k despite having similar PSA graded population numbers.

🔵 PSA 10 HG&SS Undaunted Slowking Sells for $2.6k

Listing

This "Prime" card features the distinctive extreme close-up artwork and "jagged" foil border style unique to the HeartGold & SoulSilver era. It is notoriously difficult to grade in a 10 due to sensitive edges that often show silvering straight out of the pack. Undaunted is also well known for featuring the LEGEND cards depicting legendary Pokémon in two card sets.

Singles Type - Condition: Graded - PSA 10

Set Name - Year: Undaunted - 2010

Market Insight: This $2,600 sale represents a massive surge (~160%) compared to a previous sale of ~$1k in April 2025; the PSA 10 pop for this card is extremely low at 34 out of 694 graded.

🔵 PSA 10 Chinese Pikachu Gengar Sells for $1.8k

Listing

This card (172/151) is a Simplified Chinese exclusive "Art Rare" released in the "Collect 151 Surprise" expansion with each wave of Collect 151 releasing with a unique Pikachu card.

Singles Type - Condition: Graded - PSA 10

Set Name - Year: S-Chinese 151 Surprise (151C) - 2025

Market Insight: Since the card’s release in July 2025, PSA 10 prices have come down from around ~$5k (down ~65%) highlighting how the Chinese exclusive market has cooled significantly.

🕰️ Vintage & Niche Market Highlights

🔵 Lot of 20 Raw Gold Star Cards Sells for $47.5k

Listing

This massive lot contains 20 "Gold Star" cards, which are highly coveted secret rares from the EX Series era known for having the Pokémon defy the card borders. Selling such a large collection of high-value raw singles in a single transaction is exceptionally rare compared to selling them individually.

Origin Source - Year: EX Series Booster Packs - 2004–2007

Market Insight: This bulk sale averages ~$2,375 per card and this is without some of the even more expensive cards like the Gold Star Rayquaza or Charizard.

🔵 PSA 10 1st Edition Shining Charizard Sells for $30k

Listing

Origin Source - Year: Neo Destiny (1st Edition) - 2002

Market Insight: There are only 267 in a PSA 10. This card has consistently hit new highs nearly month over month and has steadily increased overall with a 200% increase since the end of 2024.

🔵 1st Edition Machamp Uncut Sheet Sells for $14.1k

Listing

This production sheet features the "Shadowed" 1st Edition Machamp, the version exclusively bundled in the mass-produced 2-Player Starter Sets. It is distinct from the earlier, rarer "Shadowless" 1st Edition printing, identifiable here by the visible drop shadow behind the artwork frame. Despite the single card's abundance, uncut sheets like this are incredibly scarce factory artifacts.

Origin Source - Year: Base Set (2-Player Starter Set) - 1999

Market Insight: Although scarce, this sale is a slight outlier from similar sales in December 2025 and this month around $8.5k

😴 Sleeper Pick

Sword & Shield Promos - Kanazawa's Pikachu 144/S-P

PSA 10 - 19,121 pop / 24,533 total - $270 avg.

Ungraded - $90 avg. for NM condition

Japanese exclusive Pikachu promo cards like this one offer a relatively decent entry point into the premium "Costume Pikachu" market which is usually dominated by four-figure cards like the Mario or Poncho series. One thing to note is that with an 75%+ PSA 10 gem rate, it still has room to move down further potentially.

Released to celebrate the Kanazawa Pokémon Center opening, this promo features Pikachu in a traditional kimono and boasts a beautiful "mirror foil" texture that is exclusive to Japanese releases. This Pikachu has beautiful themed artwork for collectors who want a unique Japanese-exclusive Pikachu without the $1,000+ price tag.

📜 Poké History

The 1st Edition Machamp is the only card in TCG history to be exclusively distributed as a "1st Edition" in a mass-produced product (the 2-Player Starter Set). Because every single starter deck included one, it is technically the most common 1st Edition holo ever printed, though the "Shadowless" version remains a true rarity.
