📋 TLDR

📰 TCG News: Ascended Heroes adds new reveals (incl. Giovanni promo reprint), “Perfect Order” launches Mar 27 (prereleases Mar 14–22) featuring Mega Zygarde, and $23k worth of cards seized at Changi Airport.

🔢 Card Market Highlights: Sealed softened across the board (CN 5th Anniv Gift Box, Chilling Reign BB, and Pokémon Rumble box), a low-pop PSA 10 Mew V Box Mewtwo cosmos holo spiked (~$2.75k), while headline sales included a No. 1 Trainer trophy card (~$20.6k), an Unlimited Base Set uncut sheet (~$80.7k), and a Japanese Base Set box (~$56.25k).

😴 Potential Sleepers: Mimikyu Delta Species #136 - Sword & Shield Promo

🏆 Card of the Week: Dark Dragonite from English EX Team Rocket Returns 15/109 and Japanese Silver Deck Kit 14/020, illustrated by Nakaoka. Dragonite’s reputation is that of a storm-flying guardian of the seas that guides people to safety. However this art does a great job of depicting how menacing Dragonite can look in the moonlit night sky, contrasting that reputation.

📰 TCG News

Note: Some updates may touch on wider Pokémon news beyond the TCG.

🔵 More Cards From Ascended Heroes Revealed Including Japanese Giovanni Promo Reprint

A few new cards from January’s Ascended Heroes set have been revealed: the starter Pokémon and Corbeau from Japan’s Start Deck 100 Battle Collection, Psyduck from MEGA Dream ex, and an updated reveal of Team Rocket’s Giovanni, originally a promo from a Suntory BOSS Coffee collaboration.

It’s also confirmed that the Mega Meganium ex, Mega Emboar ex, and Mega Feraligatr ex Boxes release April 24 for $21.99 with reprints from the set and lenticular jumbo cards featuring “dynamic artwork”. (Source: PokéBeach)

🔵 “Perfect Order” English Set to Release in March Featuring Mega Zygarde ex!

Perfect Order is the third English Mega Evolution set, releasing on Friday, March 27, with prereleases from March 14 to 22. It will spotlight Mega Zygarde from Japan’s Munikis Zero set and also include cards from the Mega Gallade ex product that releases the same day in Japan.

Perfect Order may also pull in Japan’s Ninja Spinner mini set with Mega Greninja ex depending on timing, and is expected to absorb any remaining cards from Start Deck 100 Battle Collection that do not make it into Ascended Heroes. (Source: PokéBeach)

🔵 Pokemon Card Seizure at Changi Airport Sparks Malaysia Customs Warning

Singapore authorities seized over S$30,000 (US$23,000) in Pokémon cards at Changi Airport from a 25-year-old traveler who said he had nothing to declare, with the haul subject to Singapore’s 9% goods and services tax, minus limited import relief.

The case prompted Malaysia’s customs chief to clarify that almost all items brought into Malaysia are taxable, with only small duty-free allowances and a 1,000 ringgit exemption cap. Pokémon and sports cards count as playing cards and, above that limit, face 10% import duty, 10% sales tax and 10% excise duty, with “no loophole” for personal items. (Source: SCMP)

🔢 Card Market Highlights

📦 Sealed Product Market Highlights

🔵 Chinese Pokemon 5th Anniversary Gift Box Sells for ~$1k

Listing

The Chinese Pokémon 5th Anniversary Gift Box is a Traditional Chinese–language premium product released on November 1, 2024 to celebrate five years of Pokémon TCG support in Taiwan and Hong Kong, following the first Traditional Chinese set in October 2019.

It is a limited regional release that includes one Super Electric Breaker (Surging Sparks) booster box, an exclusive full-art Pikachu 153/SV-P ( PSA 10 ~$1600) promo, 15 promo reprints stamped with a special 5th Anniversary logo (five each from Sun & Moon, Sword & Shield, and Scarlet & Violet). Some sales reached as high as $2k in September and October with a handful of sales around the $1k mark by the end of November and beginning of this month.

🔵 Chilling Reign Booster Box Sells for $395

Listing

Chilling Reign booster box prices have come down from a near high of $600 in September to as low as $400. The general sentiment for Chilling Reign is that it has very solid chase cards and mid tier cards but has a reputation for poor print quality and horrendous pull rates which potentially makes the perceived value per box lower. Nevertheless, the card list still makes this an underrated set for the current price.

🔵 Pokemon Rumble Game Box Sells for $2.4k

Listing

Pokémon TCG: Rumble is a 2009 special boxed set released alongside the WiiWare game “Pokémon Rumble.” A sealed box comes with the full 16-card mini-set along with other accessories. At the beginning of this month, a sale of this box went for nearly $2.3k. Prices are trending down a bit as back in August, a sale of this box went for $3.1k. The top chase cards of this set like Pikachu have gone up and down a bit (in raw card prices) before settling at about $200. Each card in this set has under 30 PSA 10 copies.

💎 Singles & Graded Cards Highlights

🔵 PSA 10 Mew V Box Mewtwo #56 Sells for $2.75k

Listing

This Mewtwo is Cosmos Holo variant of the Mewtwo from Brilliant Stars (card 056/172) Included in the English Mew V Box, a Best Buy–exclusive product released in 2022.

Near mint raw prices are up over 200% in the past 6 months. There are only 14 copies in a PSA 10. There was one other PSA 10 sale this year in April for $249 (either an outlier or a signal for how crazy the market has been - cert #71113886).

PSA 10 copies of the Trick or Trade version of this card are currently around $100 up from $30 in the beginning of the year.

🔵 NM Evolving Skies Dragonite V #192 Sells for $360

Listing

Evolving Skies as a set has been mostly stable the past few months with some rises and dips. This Dragonite has seen a near 15% drop from about $500 to $410. Umbreon VMAX #215 has seen a 7% drop while Rayquaza VMAX #218 has been stable over the past 6 months around $700 (all raw near mint prices). Sealed booster box prices are around $2.2k.

🔵 PSA 10 Japanese B&W Pikachu 15th Anniv. Promo Sells for $7.5k

Listing

The 2013 Japanese Black & White promo Pikachu #229/BW-P is a full-art holo Pikachu released as part of the Pokémon Center 15th Anniversary Premium Card Set. The card was sold exclusively through Pokémon Centers in Japan for a limited time in May 2013.

There are 914 in a PSA 10 (with a total of 1769 ungraded) and prices have increased from sales at around $2k at the beginning of the year. A Reddit thread from 12 years ago contains sold listing links for this card at around $25 ungraded. It now goes for ~$1k.

🕰️ Vintage & Niche Market Highlights

🔵 PSA 7 Yoshiko Harada No. 1 Trainer World Summer Challenge Sells for ~$20.6k

Listing

The Yoshiko Harada No. 1 Trainer World Summer Challenge Secret Super Battle is a 2000 Japanese trophy card awarded to Yoshiko Harada, champion of the senior “Secret Super Battle–Best in Japan” division at the World Summer Challenge.

The series ran as eight regional events starting July 1, 2000, with junior brackets branded as Tropical Mega Battle and senior brackets as Secret Super Battle, and culminated in a deciding match held at Pokémon Center Tokyo on August 19, 2000. The card itself is a holo prize card that features Harada’s photo surrounded by Pikachu, Chansey, Growlithe, Doduo, Voltorb, and Marill.

🔵 Unlimited Base Set Uncut Sheet Sells for ~$80.7k

Listing

An Unlimited Base Set uncut sheet is a full production sheet of 1999 English Base Set cards printed by Wizards of the Coast before they were cut and packed into booster packs. These sheets preserve the exact press layout in a large grid (often 100–121 cards per sheet) and can feature specific rarity groupings, such as common sheets with Pikachu, Charmander, and Squirtle or separate holographic proof sheets.

For market context, sealed Unlimited Base Set booster boxes containing cards printed from these runs have seen sustained recent sales going from anywhere between $20k-$30k.

🔵 Japanese Base Set Booster Box Sells for ~$56.3k

Listing

A Japanese Base Set booster box is a factory-sealed box of the original 1996 Japanese Pocket Monsters Card Game “Expansion Pack,” the first Pokémon TCG set ever released. These boxes were sold in Japan starting October 20, 1996, more than two years before the English Base Set launch, and each box contains 60 booster packs versus the 36 found in the English equivalent, for a total of 600 cards.

The very first print run of this set featured cards without rarity symbols in the bottom-right corner. These “no rarity” cards are functionally identical in gameplay but lack the small ●/◆/★ mark that later print runs use to distinguish commons, uncommons, and rares. A PSA 10 No Rarity Symbol Charizard sold for a winning bid of over $500k in September this year.

😴 Potential Sleepers

Mimikyu Delta Species #136 - Sword & Shield Promo

PSA 10 - 1402 pop / 4578 total - $240 average

Ungraded - $10 average for near mint condition

The release of Celebrations introduced reprints of older set themes with modern Pokémon. Delta Species Mimikyu is one such example. Delta Species Pokémon cards featured Pokémon with altered types, a result of scientific experiments in the Holon region (altering weaknesses/strengths with regard to actual TCG play). Fun fact: The crystals in this card are a reference to the Crystal Guardians expansion.

These cards are unique and even English language exclusives. The tie-back to older sets combined with it being a Celebrations card make it highly collectible. Although raw prices have peaked and dipped a bit, this card is still very underrated and a good pick up even at PSA 10 prices.

📚 Educational Commentary – Collector’s Corner

Rarities 101: What Do All the Symbols Actually Mean?

In the simplest terms, rarity symbols are just a way to show how often a card appears in a set. A circle is a common, a diamond is an uncommon, and a black star is a rare. From there it branches out: you have rare holos (star with a holo pattern on the art box), and in modern sets you get layers like double rare ex cards, illustration rares, special illustration rares, and hyper rares.

Promos skip set symbols entirely and use the Black Star Promo icon instead, since they are distributed outside of standard packs, like through tins, events, or magazines.

On top of the classic symbols, you now also see small text codes next to the rarity icon on some cards, like “MUR” on new Mega Evolution cards, which marks the Mega Hyper Rare / Mega Ultra Rare tier.
